Dr. Hilary Rodrigues
Dr. Hilary Rodrigues is a rural dental practitioner based in Whitbourne. Originally from Tanzania, he studied at the University of London, England, and was appointed lecturer at the Royal Dental Hospital before coming to Newfoundland in 1974. He has extensive experience in community activity, having served as councillor and mayor of Whitbourne, chair of the Community Futures Committee, chair of a stadium committee, chair of the food and beverage committee of the Newfoundland and Labrador chapter of Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, member of the Canadian Agrifoods Marketing Council, delegate to the International Red Cross, Navigator of the 4th degree in the Knights of Columbus, and member of the Premier’s Committee on the Social Strategic Plan. He is currently the inaugural chair of the Harris Centre’s Advisory Board.

He is also an accomplished entrepreneur, establishing the award-winning Rodrigues Winery in the 1990s. The company has expanded to include a distillery which produces liqueurs, brandy and vodka, and has recently branched into nutraceuticals – foods such as blueberries, partridgeberries, cranberries and seabuckthorn that have a medicinal effect on human health.
